Whew, we made it!

After a 12 hour flight to Tokyo, a 90 minute layover, and a 4 hour flight to Beijing, we finally made it last night! We got to our hotel at about 10:30pm (Beijing time). A chinese rep named Chandler was at the airport when we came through customs with a sign that said "Children's Home Society & Family Services" (our agency). He was there to greet us and another couple who brought their two boys on their journey to pick up their daughter Lydia. Chandler took us all back to the hotel and explained our itinerary. Friday we see the Forbidden City, Saturday the Great Wall, and Sunday he said "bye, bye". Our hotel lobby (Oriental Culture Hotel) is extremely nice...falls just short of me comparing it to a Ritz, although getting off the elevator almost knocked us over with the smell of smoke infested carpet. The beds are about as comfortable as park benches topped with a yoga mat...if you like to sink into the bed when you sleep (we do) this place isn't for you! Anyway, it's 7am Friday here and we have to meet in the lobby at 8:30 to catch our tour to the Forbidden City.

P.S. from Leslie - Had my first "squatty potty" experience at the Narita airport. It was interesting to say the least!

hahaha I had to "squat potty" in Turkey. It was quite the experience. Glad you made it out alive, I didn't know mine was a pay squatter and got stuck in the stall. I hope you enjoy the forbidden city, and the great wall. I can't wait for your return"

Leslie - Is that my mom's version of "squatty potty" when we used to roadtrip? LOL
